T-Mobile T-Mix Plans Start at $55: How Picks Work and the Catches

T-Mobile has officially announced T-Mix, a set of three phone plans arriving in November. Prices start at $55 a month for one line. Each tier includes a number of Picks, which are swappable benefits you choose yourself.

T-Mix pricing and availability

Here is what each plan costs for a single line:

  • T-Mix Standard: from $55/month, 1 Pick
  • T-Mix More: from $75/month, 2 Picks
  • T-Mix Loaded: from $95/month, 3 Picks

All three prices include AutoPay. Taxes and fees are extra. T-Mobile says the plans arrive in November, but its announcement gives no exact date.

Discounted versions are promised for four groups: customers 55 and older, military and veterans, first responders and college students. The announcement gives no prices for those versions yet.

If you read our earlier T-Mix leak coverage, the leaked one-line prices were $65, $85 and $105. Those appear to be figures before the AutoPay discount. The official prices include AutoPay, so the two sets don’t conflict.

How T-Mix Picks work

Instead of a fixed bundle, each plan gives you one to three slots to fill from a menu of benefits. Adding lines or moving to a higher tier gets you more Picks.

  • Returning benefits: Apple TV, DashPass by DoorDash, Hulu, Netflix, Pandora, SiriusXM
  • New partners: Apple Music, ESPN Unlimited, Delta SkyMiles, Google Gemini, Paramount+, Xbox Game Pass, YouTube Premium
  • Wireless benefits: T-Satellite, and Optimized Video Calls, a network slice that prioritizes video calls
  • Device promotions: including using Picks toward a new phone

Partner Picks can be swapped four times a year. That covers three change windows plus an Annual Remix window. Wireless benefits such as T-Satellite can be changed at any time.

Existing member perks such as T-Mobile Tuesdays, hotel and rental car deals and event access continue alongside Picks.

T-Mobile’s chief marketing officer, Allan Samson, pitched T-Mix as a break from one-plan-fits-all bundles:

One-size-fits-all was simple for the industry, but for customers it turned into one-size-fits-nobody.

The catch is in the T-Mix fine print

T-Mobile’s own terms put real limits on that flexibility. Here is what the press release’s fine print says:

  • Use them or lose them: unapplied Picks don’t carry over to the next quarter and aren’t refundable.
  • No cash value: Picks can’t be traded, gifted or redeemed for cash.
  • Change fees: swapping a partner benefit outside a change window may cost a fee.
  • Moving goalposts: T-Mobile can change the benefits, and how many Picks each one needs, at any time. Pick allotments can change too.
  • Phone deals tie up Picks: a device promotion holds its Picks for the length of the promotion.
  • Account changes: changes to your account can alter your Pick count and affect active device promotions.

The device promotion rule deserves the most attention. Any Pick tied to a phone deal can’t hold Netflix or Game Pass until that promotion ends. On the one-Pick Standard plan, a phone promotion using that Pick would leave nothing for streaming.

T-Mobile also says Loaded carries at least $120 in average value per line each month. That is the carrier’s own estimate. What you actually get depends on which Picks you would have paid for anyway.

The right to change benefits and Pick costs at any time is the clause to read twice. For context on pricing promises, T-Mobile recently settled a New York case over a price guarantee.
