OnePlus One and OnePlus X will not get VoLTE support, blames Qualcomm

Just four days ago, OnePlus announced that VOLTE support is coming for their OnePlus 2 smartphones in fourth Quarter i.e. Q4 2016. That announcement though was silent on the two other smartphones from the company i.e. OnePlus One and OnePlus X. Today on their forums, they have made it pretty clear about the fate of these two devices  for VOLTE and the news is pretty bad for those users who were hoping to receive a OTA update sooner or later for VOLTE support, especially after Reliance launched Jio 4G LTE service which needs VoLTE support.

Both OnePlus One & OnePlus X smartphones run on Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chip and the company is blaming Qualcomm for denying the VOLTE support for these devices. This is what OnePlus says about the VOLTE support for these two devices :

Regarding OnePlus One and OnePlus X, we regret to inform that native VoLTE enablement on Snapdragon 801 devices cannot be enabled as Qualcomm does not support the same.

We at Androidpure are not so sure if this is Qualcomm fault, unless Oneplus offers us some more detailed reason. If you check out the Snapdragon 801 telephony features, you will find that the SD 801 Chip does support “HD Voice over 3G and VoLTE“. Hence, most users may be baffled with the company argument here that Qualcomm is at fault here or we can presume that OnePlus doesn’t want to put more resources for two of their old smartphones.

If you look at some of earlier responses from OnePlus like the two tweets reproduced below, you will find that the company has agreed that hardware (of OnePlus X here) can VOLTE for sure, though software is not ready.

@avishekghosh_ The hardware can support VOLTE but the software is not ready yet. It will be supported at the appropriate time in the future.

Hi Ankur! Our ROM team is working on enabling this feature soon for the OnePlus X. Please stay tuned. Thanks!

So it seems OnePlus got awaken to the fact that these are Snapdragon 801 devices in which VOLTE cannot be enabled due to no support from Qualcomm. The OnePlus One, OPX users would definitely like to have a bit more detailed explanation of why the company is unable to offer them VOLTE support in spite of assuring the users earlier that the feature will be enabled soon through a OTA update.
