Moto Z and Moto Z Force with modular accessories officially launched: Here’s all you need to know about them

Motorola has officially launched its 2016 flagship phones, the Moto Z and the Moto Z Force, at Lenovo Tech World 2016, in San Francisco. The phones mark the debut of the Z series, which is technically the replacement for the X series.

Moto Z Droid

Both phones are quite similar in technical specifications, with some minor differences.

Moto Z

The Moto Z sports a 5.5-inch QHD 1440p display with (2560 x 1440 pixels) and a pixel density of 535 ppi. It runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. The device is powered by a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, with 4GB RAM and an Adreno 530.

The phone comes in two variants: 32GB and 64GB of internal storage, with a microSD card slot for upto 2TB of expandable storage. The photography options on the Moto Z includes a 13 megapixel rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture Dual LED Flash, Optical Image Stabilisation, Laser AutoFocus, 8X digital zoom, Burst mode, Night mode, Auto HDR, Closed loop processing, Panorama, 1080p HD video recording @ 60 fps,  4K video recording  @ 30 fps, Slo mo video.

The front camera is a 5 megapixel selfie camera, with an f/2.2 aperture and wide-angle lens. The Moto Z has a front facing fingerprint scanner, and is backed by a 2600mAh battery with Turbo charging. The phone has a water-repellant coating and comes with modular accessories called Moto Mods.

There are several shells called Style Mods as well including real wood, leather, patterned fabric and more.
Moto Z Style Mods

The mods can be connected to the phones easily, using the built-in magnets, which also help in detaching them quickly.Both the Moto Z and the Moto Z Force do not come with a 3.5mm audio jack, instead they use a USB Type C port for Audio as well as charging and data transfers (much like the LeEco Le 2 and Le Max 2)

Moto Z Force

The Moto Z Force shares the specifications of the Moto Z but for the display, rear camera, and the battery. The Moto Z Force has a  5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED ShatterShield display, features a 21 megapixel rear camera with  OIS (optical image-stabilization), PDAF phase detection autofocus and laser autofocus.  The Z Force is backed by a 3500 mAh battery.

The Moto Z DROID Edition and Moto Z Force DROID Edition will be available exclusively for Verizon in the U.S. this summer along with the Moto Mods.

The global variants of the Moto Z and the Moto Z Force with Moto Mods will be available in September.
