Apple has published its own buying terms for the iPhone Duo, and the headline monthly figure is a lease rather than a purchase. Apple Upgrade starts as low as $57.99 a month on a 24-month lease. That figure leaves out taxes and any trade-in credit.

The terms appear in an October 15 update to Apple’s iPhone Duo newsroom post. They also answer a question our iPhone Duo pre-order setup guide couldn’t settle: how long the prep window stays open. Apple now says it closes at 9 p.m. PT on Thursday, October 15.
What the iPhone Duo lease actually gets you
Apple Upgrade is provided by Klarna and comes in 12-month and 24-month terms. Apple’s own footnote is direct about what kind of deal it is.
This offer is for a consumer lease, not a purchase or loan.
At the end of the term, Apple says eligible customers have three options. They can move to the latest model or buy the phone with a one-time payment. They can also return it and leave the program.
Leaving early has a cost. Apple’s footnote warns that ending the lease before the term is up can bring a substantial charge.
The $57.99 figure needs careful reading too. It is a starting price, and it excludes sales tax. Apple’s footnote adds that the advertised payment may not include a trade-in’s estimated value.
Apple’s newsroom post does not list an iPhone Duo purchase price. That means a lease-versus-buy total can’t be worked out from Apple’s page alone. For buyers, the monthly number is a floor rather than the bill. The phone only becomes yours if you make that one-time payment at the end.
Pre-order prep closes 9 p.m. PT on October 15
Apple lets shoppers save their choices to the shopping bag ahead of pre-orders. Those choices cover:
- Configuration of the phone
- Accessories
- Leasing or financing pre-approval
- Trade-in details
Anything saved before 9 p.m. PT on Thursday, October 15 can be checked out with a single click once pre-orders open. That cutoff is midnight ET, or 9:30 a.m. IST on Friday, October 16.
Pre-orders start at 5 a.m. PT on Friday, October 16, on apple.com and in the Apple Store app. In India, that is 5:30 p.m. IST the same day. Apple’s iPhone Duo page says the phone goes on sale October 23 at apple.com and at select carriers and partner stores.
Apple Trade In: $175 to $885, depending on the phone
Apple offers an instant credit of $175 to $885 when you trade in an eligible iPhone 13 or newer. Where you land in that range depends on your phone’s condition, year and configuration.
Apple says the credit can go toward Apple Upgrade payments, Apple Card Monthly Installments or a carrier deal.
Carrier credit comes with its own catch
Apple also points buyers to AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon. It cites up to $1,200 in carrier credit toward iPhone Duo when you trade in an iPhone 14 Pro Max or newer. We broke down AT&T’s $1,200 bill-credit deal and Xfinity’s $1,000 offer separately.
One warning from Apple’s AT&T footnote applies to anyone taking that route. If you cancel the eligible wireless service, the credits stop and you owe the rest of the device balance.
Running costs matter after purchase too. Our iPhone Duo repair cost breakdown covers what an inner display fix costs without AppleCare+.
