Google have updated their Maps app to bring in some cool new features.

Navigation with Lane Guidance

The Maps app now offers “Lane Guidance” for turn-by-turn voice navigation. The bad news is, the service isn’t available everywhere. Currently, it just works in the following places.

  • Canada: highway
  • Japan: non-highway roads
  • United States: highways and local roads in major metropolitan areas

It is still in beta, so hopefully they will add support for more Countries soon.

Offline Maps:

You can save your maps for offline use by searching for a destination, and choosing the “save for offline use” option. You can access it quickly from the app by signing in and tapping on the profile icon on the top right corner.

Uber Integration:

Google Maps now supports the Uber transportation service. You can view the transit route and options directly from within the app.  Of course, this only applies to cities where the service functions.

Apart from the above features, a couple of new ones were included in the update too. Google Maps now displays transit results , such as the total walking time. You can even get the train or bus timings for your destination. This is pretty handy when you are travelling to a new place.

The Google Maps update has already begun rolling out, so check your Playstore app for the update.
