Samsung Galaxy Nexus will not receive Android 4.4 Kitkat update

Amid all the good news from Google today, here comes one bad news. It seems Google is leaving behind the Samsung Galaxy Nexus in this Android 4.4 Kitkat update and in spite of other nexus device like Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 getting the Android 4.4 update, the Android 4.4 kitkat update won’t be available to Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

This information though is not available on the Google announcement blogs, but one of the support pages of Galaxy Nexus in spanish talks about this non availability of the Android 4.4 update for the device. Checkout the screenshot of the translated version (using chrome browser).

Galaxy Nexus Android 4.4 KitkatEven though this can not be treated as official statement from Google, unless Google clarifies otherwise the statement above stays. If it turns out to be true, Galaxy Nexus owners will feel bad for sure as one of the reasons to get any Nexus device is that you are promised to get any new Android version on your device directly from Google.

We will update the post if we hear more about it.

Update:

Here is a small explanation which talks about why the Galaxy Nexus won’t be getting Android 4.4 update.

Galaxy Nexus, on sale for two years, is not included in the update period of 18 months using Google and other companies to update devices.

But it also makes it clear that someone at XDA is going to port Android 4.4 kitkat to Galaxy Nexus soon.
