Android M for Nexus 5, 6, 9 and Nexus Player are already available for download, in the form of  developer preview images.

Android-M

Earlier today, we reported about the official Android M announcement.

You can download the Android M Developer Preview System Images for the following devices.

  • Nexus 5 (GSM/LTE)  “hammerhead”
  • Nexus 6 “shamu”
  • Nexus 9 “volantis”
  • Nexus Player  “fugu”.

Here is the official download page for the Android M system images.

Google will provide OTA updates (Over-the-air) from time to time. The OTA updates will be available to a device once you flash the preview onto it. Google will also provide new system images too. You can flash the images using adb, but do take a backup of your data before flashing the new version.

Android M update release timeline:

The first Android M Preview is already available (linked above).
The second Android M Preview will be released in late June or early July.
The third Android M preview will be released in late July.

Following the 3 Android M Previews, the final version will be released in Q3 (July to September).

Android M for the Nexus 7, Nexus 4, Nexus 10 aren’t available yet. All three devices are three years old, but it is too early to say that the devices will not get Android M.
