Google have updated the Play Store App to version 4.6.16, on a staged roll out.
The new version has significant changes, especially a setting which when enabled will require the user to enter the password for In-App-Purchases.
What’s New:
1. Settings and Help Section:
The “settings and help” options have been moved to the slide-out menu, which we normally use for accessing the main section of the Play Store. So say goodbye to the menu button which was present on the top right corner.
Swipe from the left side of the screen to access it.
2. My Apps:
You can now batch install apps from the “My Apps” section of the Play Store app on your device. They have also tweaked it not to jump back up to the top of the list, when you removed an app.
But the Play Store still can’t install multiple apps at once. If I remember correctly, the old Android Market had this feature. Another great feature which they could add is a pause/resume button. Listen up, Google!
3. General Settings:
There is now an option to require password for all IAPs. There is no timer like in the prior version, which required passwords for 30 minutes. Another notable change is the renaming of the “Auto-add widgets to home screen” to “add icon to Home screen”. While the functionality of this option hasn’t changed, it was creating some confusion amongst users.
4. IAPs added to permissions list:
Despite of adding the “In App Purchases ” to the app/game’s Play Store page, there was a chance that some users could miss the text. So, if you go to an IAP enabled game/app’s page and tap on the install button, you will find that the list of permissions now includes “In App Purchases” as well.
I wish they would bring back the updated date back to the main page of the game/app, currently we have to scroll down to the end of the description in the page to check if an app was updated recently. This however, does not apply to apps without IAPs.
5. Play Store Updater:
Tapping on the build version of the Play Store now allows the app to check for and install an available update.
Download and Install Google Play Store 4.6.16:
You can either wait for Google to roll out the update slowly, or just download the Google Play Store 4.6.16 update from our Dev Host mirror. Just install it like a normal apk, and it should update the existing Play Store app on your device.
