Google’s free Snapseed photo editor is rolling out a new update on Android and iOS. For most people, the headline change is that you can now import presets and 3D LUTs from other apps, such as Lightroom.
Droid Life reports this is version 4.2. It also adds Motion Blur, depth-based Lens Blur and a Color Grade tool. The update is arriving gradually, so it may not show up on your phone yet.

Snapseed 4.2 preset and LUT imports
Snapseed now accepts presets and LUTs in several formats. The sources list them slightly differently:
- Google Play listing: .xmp presets, 3D LUTs in .cube and .png formats, QR Looks and .zip packs
- Droid Life’s changelog: .cube, .xmp, .3dl, .png and .snapseed files
Sharing works the other way too. According to the App Store notes, you can share your own Looks and choose to include the LUTs they use.
Droid Life says imports live under Manage Looks in the gallery menu. Here’s how to bring in your presets:
- Update Snapseed from Google Play or the App Store.
- Open the gallery menu and tap Manage Looks.
- Import your preset or LUT file in one of the supported formats.
Motion Blur, Lens Blur and Color Grade
- Motion Blur: adds motion trails to the whole scene, the background or the subject.
- Lens Blur by depth: softens backgrounds using depth information. A Bokeh Boost option makes highlights bloom, per the App Store notes.
- Color Grade: tonal color wheels that tint shadows, midtones and highlights separately.
Droid Life’s changelog says full multi-wheel Color Grading is now rolling out to everyone on Android, alongside LUT support.
Discover #SnapseedLook and landscape mode on iPad
A new Discover #SnapseedLook section collects Looks from other photographers. You can try one on your own photo and see the full edit recipe behind it.
On iPhone and iPad, Snapseed now supports landscape orientation, according to Droid Life’s changelog. If you shoot RAW on a Pixel and edit elsewhere, our guide to fixing washed-out Pixel RAW photos in Lightroom may also help.
