Google’s headline reason to buy a Googlebook is how tightly it works with an Android phone. For at least two Android Authority staff writers, that part simply does not work. Neither can pair a Pixel phone with their ASUS Googlebook 14, and a factory reset did not fix it.

Android Authority published the account on October 8, based on its own review hardware rather than reader reports.
Colleague Paul Jones and I are both unable to pair our Pixel phones with our Googlebooks
— Android Authority
Which devices are affected
Three different Pixel models failed, all of them on stable Android 17. Beta phone software is not the explanation here.
- Phones that failed to pair: Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 11 Pro XL, Pixel 11 Pro Fold
- Laptop involved: ASUS Googlebook 14, running software build v17.CL3B.260622.271.R1
- Tried and did not help: a full factory reset of the Googlebook
- Possible workaround: updating system services on the Googlebook
This matters more than a typical launch bug. Cross-device integration is one of Google’s headline marketing claims for the Googlebook. The best of those features also require an Android 17 handset to begin with. Owners who bought in specifically for that pairing are the exact group it is failing for.
A second problem on the cheapest model
Android Authority separately reports that at least four Reddit users say their Acer Googlebook 14 is stuck in a boot loop. The pattern described is an Updating screen, then a restart, then the same screen again. Unlocking and re-locking the bootloader reportedly does not break the cycle.
These are user reports relayed by Android Authority, not something we have independently verified. The Acer model is the cheapest of the five Googlebooks at launch and the only convertible in the group. Android Authority says it has asked Acer for comment, and as of October 8 no response had surfaced.
What owners should do now
As of October 8, no fix has been announced for either problem. If you are seeing the pairing failure, check for a system services update on the laptop first. A full reset did not help Android Authority’s units, so it is not the obvious next step. If your Acer unit is cycling on the Updating screen, raise a warranty claim with Acer rather than experimenting with the bootloader.
Both problems sit on hardware that only went on sale in the US on October 4, 2026. A rocky first week is survivable. An advertised headline feature that does not work for reviewers on launch hardware is a harder thing for Google to wave off.
