Pixel Watch Safety Signal Ends December 12, Google Confirms

Google has confirmed that free Pixel Watch Safety Signal access ends on December 12, 2026. The change applies to the Pixel Watch 2 (LTE) and the Pixel Watch 3 (LTE). Google spelled it out in a post on its Pixel Watch Community support forum.

We reported this earlier in the week as an unconfirmed finding. That story was Pixel Watch 2 and 3 LTE Are Losing Safety Signal, App Code Shows. It rested entirely on strings pulled from an unreleased build of the app, and no official statement had surfaced at the time. Google’s forum post now confirms both the removal and the date.

What Pixel Watch Safety Signal actually does

Safety Signal is a Google Health Premium feature. On an LTE-equipped Pixel Watch, it keeps a cellular safety link alive without a separate watch data plan. That link backs Emergency SOS, Fall Detection and Safety Check when your phone is out of range. So “free” here means no separate carrier line for the watch, not free of a subscription.

Those three emergency features are not going away. They continue to work over Wi-Fi, over Bluetooth to a paired phone, or on an active carrier line. What ends is the free standalone-LTE path that Safety Signal provided.

As we evolve our connectivity and safety capabilities, we will be ending Safety Signal on Dec 12.

How the cutoff is meant to work

Google described two things, and it is worth reading both carefully. Existing Safety Signal users get advance notice by email and push notification. From the date of that email, there is a 30-day transition period during which Safety Signal keeps working without a standalone carrier plan.

Separately, Google says access ends after Dec 12, 2026. For anyone notified well ahead of that date, both the personal 30-day window and the December 12 cutoff are in play. Google’s post does not say which one applies first in every case. Treat the two statements as written rather than as one clean sequence.

Google points affected owners to its guide to using a Pixel Watch with a cellular plan as the way to keep LTE-only functionality. The Pixel Watch 4 and Pixel Watch 5 are not named in Google’s post, and neither are the non-LTE models.

What it costs the people who bought the hardware

Google’s framing is that it is evolving its connectivity and safety capabilities. The practical effect is narrower than that sounds. Buyers paid extra for the LTE version of a Pixel Watch 2 or 3. Safety Signal was a large part of what that premium bought.

Keeping the same safety coverage after December 12 now means adding a carrier or eSIM line for the watch. That is a new recurring bill for a capability these owners already paid for once. Anyone who relied on fall detection away from their phone should price that line up before the deadline rather than after it.
