Apple has told 9to5Mac that a software update for the iPhone 18 Pro reboot bug should arrive early next week. The fix covers the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max.

Owners have been reporting these reboots since the phones arrived. 9to5Mac now says Apple confirmed a software fix directly to the site. Earlier reports had no date.
What the iPhone 18 Pro reboot looks like
A failed Face ID attempt can freeze the phone. Touch stops working. A few seconds later it hard-reboots. A panic log then shows up under Settings, Privacy and Security, Analytics.
9to5Mac reproduced it on an iPhone 18 Pro. The tester covered their face while unlocking the Passwords app with Face ID. The phone stopped responding, then restarted.
It does not hit every unit. 9to5Mac called the reports reasonably widespread, based on readers and social posts. Apple has not published a count.
What to do while you wait
Some owners had already swapped the phone at an Apple Store, on the theory that the hardware was faulty. 9to5Mac says that swap is not required for this bug, now that a software fix is confirmed.
Apple has not named the iOS build that will carry the fix. MacRumors reports that Apple is testing iOS 27.0.1, and treats that build as the likely one. That version is MacRumors’ reading, not a build Apple has announced.
A separate Face ID complaint is about privacy screen protectors near the new camera. Removing a protector is not the fix Apple just confirmed for these reboots.
Apple already shipped watchOS 27.0.1 for a different restart bug on Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4. That update does not patch the iPhone.
A phone at this price should not reboot because Face ID missed. The update is the path Apple is offering, and it is still days away. If the reboots continue after it lands, that is when a hardware swap is worth asking about.
