Motorola is widening the reach of Qira, its always-on AI assistant built with Lenovo, beyond the handful of phones that shipped with it. The expansion rides along with the Android 17 upgrade, and it covers select models in the Signature, Razr and Edge families.
That is the whole of the confirmed eligibility picture. Motorola has been described as selective here rather than comprehensive, and no per-model list has been published. If you own a Razr or an Edge, the honest answer today is that your family qualifies but your specific handset may not. Anyone shopping the new Motorola Signature 27 is in the most clearly covered line of the three.
What Qira actually does
Motorola pitches Qira as “a single AI experience that spans across Motorola and Lenovo products.” That is the company’s own framing, and the cross-device continuity it describes is the main reason Qira exists as a separate thing from the rest of Moto AI. Work started on a phone is meant to pick up on a Lenovo device without you moving it across manually.
You summon it with “Hey Qira,” and you can talk to it by voice, text, images or video. Two named features carry most of the pitch:
- Style Sync — matches outfits and helps with style choices.
- Catch me up — assembles a recap of your notifications, news and other recent activity.
There is also an integration with Workato that lets Qira carry out tasks and pull information out of your email on request.
The permissions you have to hand over
Read that feature list again with an eye on what it needs to work. “Catch me up” cannot summarise your notifications without reading them. The Workato integration cannot surface information from your email without access to your mailbox. Switching these on means routing your messages and alerts through an AI system run by Motorola and Lenovo.
Motorola does say the functionality depends on permissions you grant, and that you can decline email or notification access. That is the right design, and it is worth saying so. It also means the useful half of Qira is the half that asks for the most. A buyer deciding whether to enable it should weigh the convenience of a notification recap against handing a vendor assistant a standing view of their inbox.
When to expect it
Qira arrives with Android 17 on each eligible device, not as a separate app update. That ties your timeline to Motorola’s OS rollout schedule for your specific phone, which historically varies a lot between the Razr, Edge and Signature lines. Motorola announced the expansion around Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit, so more detail on which models make the cut may follow shortly.
