vivo has launched the Y31t 5G in India at ₹25,999, a budget phone built almost entirely around endurance: a 7,200mAh battery, IP68 and IP69 ratings, and military-grade drop certification. It is on sale now through the vivo India e-store, Flipkart and partner retail stores in Crimson Red, Seashore Green and Golden Mist.

Where the money goes, and where it does not

The durability story is genuine. IP69 covers high-pressure, high-temperature water jets rather than just immersion, which is unusual at any price, and a 7,200mAh cell in a 219g body is a real two-day phone for most people. If you work outdoors, on a site, or anywhere a phone gets rinsed, that combination is worth paying for and is hard to find elsewhere under ₹30,000.

The screen is where the bill comes due. At 1608 x 720 this is a 720p-class panel stretched across 6.75 inches — roughly 261 pixels per inch, low enough that text edges are visible if you look for them. It is an LCD, not OLED, so blacks are grey and there is no always-on display. The 120Hz refresh rate is real and helps, but a smooth 720p LCD is still a 720p LCD, and phones at ₹25,999 have shipped 1080p OLED panels for years.

The rest of the sheet has the same shape. Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 is an entry-level chip, and pairing it with LPDDR4x memory rather than LPDDR5 puts this well behind what ₹25,000 buys from Redmi, realme, POCO or vivo’s own T-series. Bluetooth 4.2 and Wi-Fi 5 in a phone launched in August 2026 are hard to defend at all — those are specifications that would have looked dated three years ago. The 2MP “portrait” sensor is the usual bulking-out unit that adds a line to the spec sheet and little to a photograph.

Then there is the top of the ladder. The ₹34,999 variant buys 256GB of storage and nothing else — the same 720p screen, the same entry-level chip, the same 6GB of RAM as the ₹29,999 model. On a phone that already supports microSD expansion, spending ₹5,000 to double built-in storage is poor value; a fast microSD card costs a fraction of that.

Software support is the missing number

The Y31t 5G ships on Android 16 with OriginOS 6, at a point where Android 17 is already out and reaching devices. No OS-and-security-update commitment appears in the launch materials or on vivo India’s product page, and for a phone whose entire pitch is that it will physically survive years of abuse, that gap matters more than usual. A handset built to outlast a drop test deserves a stated number of years of software behind it, and buyers should ask for one before assuming it.

The honest read: if the IP69 rating and the battery are why you are buying, the Y31t 5G at ₹25,999 has a case few rivals can match. If you want a good screen and a chip that will still feel quick in two years, the same money goes considerably further elsewhere.
