Google says the Googlebook Better Together features that Galaxy phone owners could not use are finally reaching Samsung hardware. On October 10, the company said Play Store and background service updates had begun going out, per droid-life. The outlet was relaying a Google post on Reddit. Google expects that work to finish within a few days. That makes this a rollout in progress, not a finished fix.

Why Galaxy phones were left out
Googlebook laptops went on sale on October 4, and Google pitched them as pairing with Android phones in general, not just Pixels. Galaxy owners found several of those pairing features missing, even on phones already running Android 17. On October 6, Google told Chrome Unboxed the gap was a known software dependency rather than a setup mistake. The missing piece sat on Samsung’s side. It needed a system update, a Play Services update, or a One UI framework update to land first.
Google’s statement to Chrome Unboxed:
Better Together features are rolling out across all Android 17 supported Samsung devices over the coming weeks.
Which Better Together features were affected
Chrome Unboxed’s October 6 report named four features that Samsung users were missing:
- App Streaming
- Instant Hotspot
- Notification sync
- Cross-device file sharing
droid-life’s October 10 report used slightly different names for the same gap. Its list reads Continue On, Cast My Apps, Quick Access and Notification Sync. Google’s own examples of affected hardware, per that report, were the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Our earlier report on Googlebook’s Android 17 requirement covered the broader rule here. This story narrows it. Galaxy phones that already met the Android 17 requirement were still shut out, for a separate software reason.
What it means if you bought one
Chrome Unboxed noted that Pixel owners had these features working immediately. So the gap landed squarely on the largest Android phone brand. Google sold Googlebook partly on the promise that it works with Android phones broadly. For Galaxy owners, that promise did not hold on day one. It still has not come with a firm date either. Google has moved from a window of weeks to a window of days, which is progress, but neither one is a date on a calendar.
If you own a Galaxy phone and a Googlebook, there is not much to do at your end. Keep the Play Store and Play Services updated, then check the pairing settings again in a few days.
