Honor Magic 9 Series Confirmed for September, Pre-Orders Already Open

Honor has confirmed that the Honor Magic 9 series will launch in September, and it has opened blind pre-orders for the flagship line before saying a single thing about its specifications, price or even its final design. CEO Li Jian made the announcement at the close of the Robot Phone keynote, where the company also showed a first teaser of the Magic 9’s camera module.

What Honor Has Actually Confirmed

Two things, and only two. The Magic 9 series arrives in September — a month earlier than last year’s Magic 8 series, as GSMArena noted from the same keynote — and reservations are open now across Honor’s stores, its own mall and major online retailers. Gizmochina reports the specific date as 28 September in Beijing; that figure appears in Chinese coverage as a report rather than a line Honor put on a slide, so treat the day as reported and the month as confirmed.

Honor also said its partnership with German cinema camera maker ARRI carries over from the Robot Phone to the Magic 9 series, extending to a full production chain from shooting through post-production colour grading.

Worth being clear-eyed about the mechanic. Honor is collecting registrations for a phone whose chipset, camera hardware, battery and price have all gone unannounced — neither Honor nor the outlets covering it have said whether any deposit is involved, and Honor’s recent campaigns have used free, non-binding reservations. Either way, the company gets a reservation figure to publicise weeks before it tells you what you would be buying. Registering costs you little; it also gets you nothing you could not get by waiting for the spec sheet.

What Is Still Rumour

Everything below this line is unconfirmed and should be read that way.

  • Chipset — the series is expected to be among the first with Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 on a 2nm process. Honor has not named a chip.
  • Main camera — 200MP, 1/1.28-inch sensor, f/1.57, per tipster Digital Chat Station.
  • Periscope telephoto — also 200MP, 1/1.4-inch sensor, f/2.6, from the same tipster.
  • Display — a 6.8-inch 1.5K LTPO flat panel is the reported figure.
  • Other reported hardware — a battery capacity starting with an 8, fast wireless charging, 3D facial recognition and an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint reader.
  • Line-up — at least three models are expected: Magic 9, Magic 9 Pro and Magic 9 Pro Max.

The one piece of first-hand evidence is the teaser image itself. GSMArena’s read of it is that the camera module sits off-centre in a corner, with a knurled ring around the sensors — a texture that resembles the one on the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition. Whether it does anything beyond decoration is unknown.

A late-September Beijing launch also puts the Magic 9 in a crowded window, arriving as Xiaomi pushes its HyperOS 4 beta out and ahead of the usual autumn flagship traffic. Global availability, including India, has not been discussed at all — Honor’s recent flagship launches have started in China and reached other markets months later, if at all.
