Metro by T-Mobile’s Unlimited Plan Comes With Three Conditions

Metro by T-Mobile is advertising unlimited data for $15 a month, but the number comes with three conditions before you get anywhere near it: you have to walk into a Metro store, you have to bring your own phone, and you have to port in your existing number as a new customer. Do all three and you pay $15/mo for the first three months. After that the price goes to $25/mo with AutoPay enabled — which is simply Metro’s standard bring-your-own-device rate.

In other words, the headline price is a three-month discount of $10 a month — $30 in total — on a plan you then keep paying full price for. That is not a bad deal for a prepaid unlimited line, and $25/mo unlimited on T-Mobile’s network is genuinely competitive against Visible, Mint and Boost. It is just worth naming what the promotion actually is before deciding based on the $15.

The in-store requirement is the real catch

The offer requires signing up in a Metro store, not online. For a prepaid carrier whose entire pitch is low friction, that is a meaningful restriction — it means no activating from your couch, and it means the sign-up happens across a counter from someone with an incentive to add lines, accessories and device financing to the ticket. If you go, go knowing exactly which plan you want.

Metro has described this as a limited-time offer, but no end date has been published, so treat it as something that can disappear without notice rather than something you can plan around for a few weeks.

Metro’s new single-line plans

The promo arrives alongside a refreshed set of single-line plans, all with unlimited data, priced with AutoPay:

  • $25/mo — unlimited data, the base BYOD rate the $15 promo converts into after three months
  • $30/mo — unlimited data plus 10GB of hotspot data
  • $35/mo — adds service in Mexico and Canada
  • $20/mo — a six-month prepaid plan, the cheapest per-month rate of the set if you can pay up front

All of them run on T-Mobile’s network and include T-Mobile Tuesdays perks and Scam Shield. Metro has not published network-priority details alongside these plans, so if data speed during congested hours matters to you, check the plan’s fine print in store before signing — prepaid brands and their parent carrier’s postpaid plans are not always treated identically on a busy network.

If you already own an unlocked Android phone and are paying a postpaid carrier $60 or more for a single line, the $25/mo end state — not the $15 teaser — is the number to compare against.
