Samsung has ordered an additional one million Galaxy Z Fold 8 units into production after pre-order demand outpaced the company’s own forecasts, according to a report from South Korean outlet ET News. The manufacturer initially assembled 2.8 million units of the wide-body foldable; the total is now 3.8 million, and Samsung may increase production further if demand holds.

The Z Fold 8 accounts for roughly 59 percent of all pre-orders across Samsung’s foldable lineup globally and has generated 30 percent more pre-orders than its predecessor, the Z Fold 7, according to SamMobile. Combined pre-orders for the Z Fold 8, Z Flip 8, and Z Fold 8 Ultra are projected to reach five million units worldwide.
In South Korea specifically, the Z Fold 8 drove around 70 percent of all Z8 series pre-orders, breaking a domestic pre-order record previously held by the Galaxy Note 10 in 2019.
Why the Demand Spike
The Z Fold 8 marks Samsung’s biggest design shift in the foldable line since the original Fold. It drops the tall, narrow cover screen of previous generations for a wider form factor with a 10:16 cover display and a 4:3 unfolded main screen, making both halves of the device more usable as standalone experiences. The redesigned aspect ratios are better suited to vertical video apps and standard media consumption without the letterboxing that plagued earlier Folds.
Whether this translates into sustained sales beyond launch-window enthusiasm remains to be seen. Samsung has a history of strong foldable pre-orders that taper off once early adopters are served, and the Z Fold 8’s premium pricing still limits its addressable market compared to conventional flagships. But a million-unit production bump is a concrete signal that Samsung sees the wider form factor as more than a niche experiment.
