HMD Global has confirmed that it will announce the Nokia XR20 rugged phone soon in India. The device will be up for pre-order from October 20th. Here’s everything you need to know about the phone that debuted in Europe, this July.
The handset sports a 6.67 inches Full HD+ LCD screen with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels, 20:9 Aspect Ratio, and 550 nits brightness. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, and supports Gloves and Wet Hands, meaning you can use it in harsh weather conditions. The rear panel of the phone is made of Polymer composite material, while the side frame is made from Polymer composite and Aluminium.
The Nokia XR20 is rated IP68 for water and dust resistance, and can survive in up to 1.5m water for over an hour. The rugged smartphone has been certified for the MIL-STD-810H military standard, and has up to 1.8m drop protection. The device measures at 10.64 x 171.64 x 81.5mm, and weighs a hefty 248g.
The XR20 runs on Android 11, and Nokia will offer 3 years of OS upgrades and 4 years of monthly security updates, to keep the device updated until 2025. The phone is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 5G processor with an Adreno 619 GPU. It should be available with 4GB/6GB of RAM, with 64GB/128GB of storage, and a microSD card slot that supports up to 512GB of additional memory.
The selfie lens housed in the hole-punch cutout is an 8 megapixels front camera. The Nokia XR20 has dual rear cameras comprising a 48 MP Samsung GM1st sensor with an f/1.79 aperture, 1/2.25 sensor size, 0.8µm pixel size, assisted by a 13 megapixels FF, Ultra-wide angle lens with a Samsung ISOCELL 3L6 sensor, an f2.4 aperture, 1/3” sensor size, 1.12 µm pixel size, 123° FoV, and two flash modules; a Dual-tone LED and Single LED. Nokia has packed a 4630 mAh battery in the device and it supports 18W wired fast charging with Quick Charge 4.0, and a USB Type-C 3.0 port. The cell can also be topped up without cables thanks to 15W wireless charging, and Qi wireless charging support.
Connectivity-wise the Nokia rugged phone support 5G and 4G LTE mobile networks, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax-ready, Wi-Fi dual-band (2.4GHz + 5.0GHz), 2×2 MiMo, Blueooth 5.1, NFC, USB OTG, GPS/A-GPS, Galileo, GLONASS/A-GLONASS, Beidou, QZSS, and NavIC navigational methods.
Surprisingly, the XR20 retains the 3.5mm headphone jack. It also has Stereo Speakers with support for OZO Playback and spatial audio. The phone has a dedicated Google Assistant button, and a top button that is programmable. The device has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner embedded in the power button. Other sensors onboard the phone include an Accelerometer (G-sensor), Ambient light sensor, Barometer, e-Compass, Gyroscope, Proximity sensor. The XR 20 is expected to come in 2 colourways: Ultra Blue and Granite.
