Poco M3 boot loop problems

Is your Poco phone stuck on the MIUI logo? This happened to me, here’s how to fix the Poco M3 boot loop issue.

I bought a Poco M3 about a month ago, and the device had been working fine until yesterday, when suddenly it rebooted on its own.

The phone didn’t start up correctly, and it was stuck on the MIUI logo. If your handset has this problem, don’t worry, we are here to teach you how to fix it using very simple steps.

Fasboot mode and recovery mode didn’t fix the problem

I tried booting up into fast boot mode by holding the power and volume down keys while starting the device, and rebooting after a few seconds. When that didn’t help, I booted into the recovery mode by holding the volume up key when the phone was powering up. Neither of those fixed the issue, and the device seemed to be boot looping. This isn’t your average black screen of death issue.

Do we have to factory reset the phone and lose all data to fix the issue? The answer is no, keep reading to know the solution to this problem. While the phone seemed to be rebooting, I noticed that touching the power button, made the device vibrate. That’s because there is a side-mounted fingerprint scanner embedded in the Poco M3 power button.

But it should not vibrate when the phone has not started up completely. So that means the phone has actually booted up, but the screen appears to be stuck on the MIUI logo. This is not a hardware issue, but a software problem.

Things required

A second phone, can be any device, but preferably Android or iOS.

How to fix the Poco M3 boot loop issue or stuck on MIUI logo – Part 1 – Accessing your phone

1. Reboot your Poco M3, touch the fingerprint scanner with a finger that hasn’t been registered to unlock the device. This will make the phone vibrate, it’s a sign that the device is ready for the next step.

2. Take the other phone, and call the number (of the SIM card) in your Poco M3.

3. The phone will display the incoming call screen. Dismiss the call, and the device will display the lock screen.

4. Access it using your device’s security code (PIN number) or fingerprint scanner. Your home screen will appear black, that’s normal because the issue that’s causing the Poco M3 to be stuck on the MIUI logo, is the Poco Launcher.

Now you can access your Poco M3, but the launcher is not responding. If you wait a few minutes, you will see a message that reads “Poco Launcher isn’t responding”. It has three buttons you can tap: Ok, Report, and Wait. Tap the Ok button.

Let’s move on to the next section to solve this issue.

How to fix the Poco M3 stuck on MIUI logo – Part 2 – Resetting the Poco Launcher

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen, and tap the gear cog button to open the Poco M3 Settings.

2. Select Apps > Manage Apps, and scroll down (or use the search bar) to find the Poco Launcher.

3. Tap on it, and on the next screen, tap the “Clear Data” button. Optionally, tap on Clear Cache as well. This will delete Poco Launcher’s settings, but it also solves the freezing issue that you can see above.

If you have issues with the system launcher, I recommend installing a different one like Nova Launcher. But you will not be able to use navigation gestures with third-party launcher apps, that’s a limitation in the Android OS.

That’s it, you now know how to fix the Poco M3 boot loop issue without formatting the phone. Try rebooting your device, the phone should work as normal.

We are not sure why the Poco Launcher is causing the problem, hopefully Xiaomi can fix it.
