Google Play Store will display an Ads label for apps which contain advertisements

Google is sending out emails to all developers who have published their apps and games on its Play Store, to announce a major change.

Google Play Logo

The Mountain View company has asked all developers to declare whether their apps contain any advertisements, and if so, the Play Store will add a label to the app which says “Ads”.

Google’s app market already denote whether an app has in-app purchases, and also lists the range of the IAPs, in each app’s listing. So, the new move is probably being made with a similar idea in mind, and will help users who have limited data to avoid ad-supported apps, and save some bandwidth.

Ads is a general term to denote all of the following: third party ad networks, display ads, native ads, and/or banner ads.

Google’s email says that this change will come in to effect from January 11, 2016, which happens to be the date when developers will be required to declare if their app has ads.
