Sony has officially launched the Xperia M4 Aqua in India, at an event in Delhi today.

The device flaunts a 5″ HD (1280×720 pixels) display, which has tempered glass.  The phone is powered by a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor (MSM8939) clocked at (Quad-core 1.5 GHz + Quad core 1.0 GHz), Adreno 405 GPU and 2GB RAM. It runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop, with Xperia Lounge. The M4 Aqua, comes in two storage variants: 8GB/16GB, with support for up to 128GB microSD expandable memory.

The Sony Xperia M4 sports a 13 megapixel camera with a Sony Exmor RS sensor, f/2.0 aperture, and ISO 3200. IT comes with a Superior Auto Mode, which supports up to 52 scenarios including low-light, or strong backlight.

The front camera is a 5 megapixel 88 ° wide angle lens, support for Portrait Retouch. The phone also has Xperia Camera apps, Sound Photo, Movie Creator, and other photo and video tools.

The phone is IP65 and IP68 rated, which means it is Waterproof and Dustproof.

The device weighs 136g, and measures 145.5 x 72.6 x 7.3 mm in dimensions. The M4 Aqua packs a 2400 mAh battery, which Sony claims will give up to two-days of battery life, and even comes with a Battery STAMINA mode, and Ultra STAMINA mode.

The Sony Xperia M4 Aqua supports 4G LTE network connectivity.

The Sony Xperia M4 Aqua has been priced at Rs. 24,990 and will be available in 3 colours: Black, White and Coral. The Sony Xperia M4 Aqua will be available at Sony Centers, Sony Smartphone Lounges and all major electronic stores across India, from 26th May.

A mid-range device priced at Rs. 24,990 is just absurd. I don’t understand the logic behind this. How is Sony going to compete with the likes of the OnePlus One, or the Xiaomi Mi 4, which offer high end specs, for a cheaper price tag?
