LG unveils a new 5.5-inch QHD Display with 538 PPI, could debut in the G4

LG Electronics has launched a new 5.5-inch QHD (Quad HD) Display for smartphones.

LG G4 QHD Display

The new QHD Display supports a resolution of 1,440 x 2,560 resolution and has a high pixel density of 538 PPI.

Normally, smartphone displays have a touch sensor placed above the display to enable the touch screen to work. But thanks to Advanced In-Cell Touch technology (AIT), the touch sensor is embedded within the LCD. This will offer an improved touch sensitivity, even when water drops are present on the screen.

The display has a blue LED chip with red and green phosphors, instead of yellow phosphors, which results in more accurate Red and Green colours and a 20% improved color gamut.

The display has a photo-alignment technology which uses UV light to provide a high contrat ratio (50% higher than other QHD) and sharper picture quality. It also has a higher brightness (30%), yet it does not consume more power.

LG says:

The company has started the mass production of the 5.5-inch QHD LCD panel with IPS technology for mobile devices that will be used in LG Electronics’ forthcoming flagship smartphone to be unveiled at the end of the month.

This suggests that the new display is likely to make its debut in the company’s upcoming flagship phone, the LG G4. The G4 is scheduled to be launched on April 28, and will skip the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 due to its thermal issues, and instead be powered by a Snapdragon 808.
