Huawei has delivered a stunning blow to it’s users by announcing that the Ascend Mate2 will not be updated to Android KitKat.
The announcement came in the most unlikeliest of ways, via an official blog post.
Nowhere have I ever read, about a company publicly refusing to update a device, which was announced in the same year. This could very well diminish their image amongst the competition, which is dominated by bigger companies.
Without further ado, here is their official statement:
We’ve received word that unfortunately we will not be updating the Mate2 to Android KitKat.
Our Mate2 is the first of many products we’ll continue to offer in the coming months, and you can expect superior hardware with the latest software going forward.

Whether it is a joke, by which they imply they will skip the KitKat update for Lollipop, is unknown. For now, it looks dead serious, and in extremely poor taste. Do they realise that this move will drive away potential buyers of their phones?
We are shocked, because we were much intrigued by their flagship device the Huawei Honor 6, which already runs on Android KitKat, but whether they will deliver Android 5.0 Lollipop to it, is unclear.
