FIFA 14 for Android is now available at Google Play for free

EA Sports have released the latest installment in their popular Football franchise, FIFA.

And FIFA 14 is a free to play game. This is the first time a FIFA game has been released for free.

The game features 33 leagues, over 600 licensed teams, and more than 16,000 players including the best leagues such as the BPL, La Liga, Seria A and the Bundesliga.

But the game doesn’t come without some flaws. The biggest one will be the lack of , what is perhaps the most popular game modes in the free version, Kick Off. Everybody loves to play a quick match between two sides they want to choose.  If you want to play Kick Off mode, you will have to buy the full game via a one time IAP which costs about $4.99

The other flaw will probably be the graphics which I think are far from sharp. Seriously, they should have worked on this one.

That does not mean you don’t get to enjoy the game. You have several single player modes to keep you entertained in the free version.

Game modes: (Free version)

  • FUT aka  FIFA Ultimate Team – You can play and earn cards or trade for them online to create your own fantasy team.
  • Games of the week –  This is the only single player match mode in the game which is available for free. It allows you to play real-world fixtures from top leagues.  And every injury, suspension, and change in the tea’s current form is reflected in-game. I think this one is actually quite incredible.
  • Penalty Shoot outs – (Self explanatory)

The full version of the game has three more modes:

  • Manager
  • Tournament
  • Kick Off!

The game also introduces a new control system. Tap to pass or tackle, touch and hold to sprint, and swipe to shoot. The game also offers a virtual gamepad with buttons, for those who dislike the new system.

Here is the official trailer for the game:

Another good thing about the game is that, you can get Squad updates for free. I played the game as my favorite team Arsenal, and before the update the team didd not have Mesut Özil, but after I chose to update the database, he was in the squad.

You can download the Audio commentary for free from the in game settings. Their servers seem to be quite slow though.

I downloaded the English Commentary pack which features two commentators, Clive Tyldesley and Andy Townsend.

You can get FIFA 14 for free from Google Play:

The game is a mammoth 1.3 GB download but plays well on my Nexus7 and Samsung Galaxy S advance.
