Exactly a year ago, there existed a happy place on the web called the Android Market.

Google Play Store

But then Google decided to switch to a new themed version, and thus was born Google Play.

The Android Market was originally launched in 2008 and ever since, we have been witnessing gradual changes in the UI and features.  With the upgrade to Google Play, they have been bringing a  lot of new stuff, not just to the web UI but the introduction of Google Play Music, Play books, Movies, Magazines, etc.

The Play Store received a lot of criticism, especially since many users thought the name was not one bit creative. While some others thought it was Google’s way of putting it in Apple’s face (The App Store). While many praised the logo, showcasing all their services under one innovative and unique design.

A look at what the Play Store has seen in the past year:

  • A completely redesigned web and app version of Google Play.
  • Google+ integration for user reviews.
  • Allowed developers to reply to user reviews and potentially resolve issues.
  • Translation of the App’s description into your selected language.
  • Nexus Devices and Accessories (for certain countries)
  • Play Gift Cards for the U.S.
  • Debit Card, Carrier Billing support (for certain countries)

And the app had some cool features added to it too:

  • Adding apps to the Wishlist
  • Removing apps from My Apps list
  • Download time remaining (in the notification bar)

They have also had some cool sales throughout the year on various occasions.

No one can deny that the Play Store is a big hit, and we at Androidpure, wish them the best for many years to come.

Happy birthday Google Play
