We had reported last week that the next version of JellyBean may land on Nexus devices sometime in March. But it looks like Google has already begun the process of pushing the updates.
Let’s take a look at how you can download the update manually and via the OTA (over the air) updater.
The update file is 48 mb in size.
Manual update download:

Manual installation on a stock Nexus 7:
- Make sure your Nexus 7 already has 4.2.1 installed before proceeding. You need to have Android SDK installed on your computer. Download it from this link. http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
- Download the appropriate 4.2.2 update file for your device from the above links and save it on your computer’s desktop.
- Shut down the tablet and press and hold the Power button + the volume down button.
- Use the volume buttons until the “Recovery ” option appears. Now press the power button.
- Press volume and power buttons and select “Update from ADB”.
- Open a command prompt window from the desktop and type this without the quotes “adb sideload 6ece895ecb23.signed-nakasi-JDQ39-from-JOP40D.6ece895e.zip”
- The flashing process should begin and the Nexus will reboot when it is over.
Manual installation on a Nexus 7 with custom recovery:
- Download the update file from the above links. Make sure you get the proper vesion (i.e Wifi or GSM)
- Copy it to your Nexus using a usb cable.
- Reboot it to recovery.
- Choose to update from zip and select the update.zip
- Flash, reboot and enjoy.
You don’t need to wipe anything (data or cache) for updating the device.
How to check for the OTA update and download it:
Go to settings>about tablet>system update and click check now. If you have an update it should begin downloading and will prompt you to install it.
If your Nexus 7 has 4.2.1 but it still says it is already upto date, you can try forcing an update. More details below
Warning: This method will delete your login info on the Nexus and you will have to remove the account manually from settings and re-login. Also keep in mind that it will remove the device from the web version of the Play store, and it may take several hours for it to reappear. However you can login to the play store on your Nexus 7 and download apps, buy them,etc.

Go to Settings>Apps and scroll down to Google Services Framework. Tap on it and you will see a few options. Tap on clear data button, and then on the force stop button. Now you need to go to Settings>About Tablet>system update. notice the date displayed? 1969 or 1970? Ignore it and just tap on Check Now.
It should show you an update is available and start downloading the file. If it doesn’t repeat the above step again, i.e clear the Google Services Framework data and force stopping it.
After the download finishes it should prompt you to install it. Do so and it will reboot, and install the update, and reboot into Android 4.2.2

No official change-log has been provided yet, so we can’t be sure of what the bug fixes and improvements are. The only thing that I noticed was a new “Download time remaining” displayed in the status bar when i updated Google+ today.
So that’s pretty useful if you are downloading a large app or game.
