Nothing Is Reportedly Building Its First Smartwatch, Due in September

Nothing is working on its first smartwatch under its own brand, according to a new leak, with a launch reportedly planned for September and a price below $300. The claim comes from tipster Yogesh Brar and has not been confirmed by Nothing, so treat everything below as a rumor until the company says otherwise.

What the Nothing smartwatch leak actually claims

The specifics in the report are thin, which is worth stating plainly rather than padding around. Brar says the wearable will carry Nothing’s distinctive design language, that it will be priced under $300, and that it will launch in limited markets to begin with. September is the stated window. That is the whole of it — no display size, no chipset, no battery figure, no sensor list, and no confirmed market list.

The most consequential blank is the software. It is not clear whether the watch will run Wear OS or a custom real-time operating system (RTOS), and that single unanswered question changes what the product is. A Wear OS watch gets Google Wallet, Google Maps, third-party apps from the Play Store, and years of platform updates that arrive independently of Nothing’s own roadmap. An RTOS watch — which is what Nothing’s cheaper CMF-branded wearables use — gets a fixed feature set, a companion app, and whatever the manufacturer chooses to ship in firmware.

Why a main-brand Nothing smartwatch is notable

Nothing has sold smartwatches for years, but only through CMF, its budget sub-brand. Keeping the main Nothing label off wrist hardware has been a deliberate line. Crossing it now, at a sub-$300 price, would put Nothing into a bracket where it is competing directly with Google’s Pixel Watch line and Samsung’s Galaxy Watch range — both of which run Wear OS, both of which are backed by years of platform work Nothing does not have.

Which brings up the part buyers should hold onto. “Limited markets” is a phrase that lands differently this month: Nothing was reported earlier this week to be preparing an exit from a dozen global markets, a report the company publicly rejected. A wearable is a long-lived purchase that depends on a companion app, a firmware pipeline, and a warranty channel staying alive in your country for years. If you are in a market that is not on the launch list — or on a list that could shrink — a first-generation watch from a brand whose regional footprint is under active question is a harder buy than the price tag suggests. That is androidpure’s read, not the tipster’s.

What to watch next

The two things to wait for before this becomes interesting are the operating system and the market list, in that order. If Nothing confirms Wear OS, the sub-$300 price becomes genuinely aggressive. If it turns out to be an in-house RTOS, this is a CMF watch with a nicer badge and a higher price, and should be judged as one. A September launch would put an announcement roughly six weeks out, which is close enough that regulatory database sightings and retail listings should start filling in the gaps well before then.
