Microsoft replaces the Hotmail app with the Outlook app

Microsoft updated the Hotmail app today and to the annoyance of the users, the latest version has killed the app.

Hotmail app Android

The Hotmail app now acts as a useless junk taking up your space and links to the new look Outlook app’s Play Store page. Now don’t go thinking that you have to download the old Outlook app, they also released an update for Outlook bringing in a fresh new UI with good features. It actually looks cool.

If you still have the old Hotmail app, i.e before the update, you will find that it does not sync folders properly. But you can still send emails using it. I am not sure if it was done deliberately for security issues or if it is a server error.

Whatever you do don’t update it and say it doesn’t work.

The new Outlook Android App

But if you did update the app, tough luck.

I am going to move on to the Outlook app, in fact I love the Web UI of Outlook and the app is just as good. Google, it is time you learn a lesson  from Microsoft, it is much better to replace a service with a better one than shutting it down.
