iPhone 18 Pro Max: US Model Missing Apple’s C2 Modem on Spec Sheet

Apple’s own US spec sheet for the iPhone 18 Pro Max is missing something the UK and India pages both have: a listed cellular modem. On the American page, the Pro Max’s connectivity section runs through Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Ultra Wideband and NFC. Then it jumps straight to Location. There is no “Apple C2 cellular modem” line at all. The smaller iPhone 18 Pro, on the same US page, lists the C2 modem normally.

The gap was first spotted by Nicolas Lellouche of French tech site Numerama, and reported further by MacRumors. It lines up with a separate claim from tipster @itspdfu. That tipster says code inside iOS 27 shows the US iPhone 18 Pro Max running a Qualcomm modem, not Apple’s own C2 silicon.

What’s actually confirmed, and what isn’t

Two things are verifiable right now. First, the omission itself is real: Apple’s US iPhone 18 Pro Max spec page does not list a cellular modem. The UK and India versions of the same page both list “Apple C2 cellular modem” for the Pro Max. Second, Apple has said nothing about it. There’s no statement, footnote, or press release addressing why the US model’s page reads differently.

What isn’t confirmed is which modem is actually inside US units. The Qualcomm claim traces to one unnamed tipster’s reading of pre-release iOS 27 code, cited by MacRumors, not to anything Apple has published. MacRumors itself is careful about this:

“It is unclear which Qualcomm modem is in U.S. units of the iPhone 18 Pro Max, but the Snapdragon X85 is most likely.”

MacRumors also notes that Apple’s foldable iPhone Duo uses the C2 modem worldwide. So this isn’t a company-wide retreat from its own modem. If it’s happening at all, it looks isolated to the US Pro Max.

Why this matters if you’re buying one in the US

Apple has spent two product cycles selling the C2 as a genuine engineering win over relying on Qualcomm. It’s the modem every other iPhone 18 Pro Max buyer outside the US is apparently getting. If the code-level claim holds up, American buyers of the top-spec iPhone would be getting different network hardware than buyers in the UK or India. They’d be paying the same price, for a phone with the same name on the box. Apple hasn’t explained the omission. Until it does, there’s no way to know if this reflects a supply decision, a US carrier testing requirement, or something else entirely.

One thing this isn’t: a UK-specific downgrade. The US page separately lists mmWave 5G support that the UK Pro Max page doesn’t. That’s ordinary regional band availability, not a modem difference. MacRumors states the C2 itself supports mmWave. Don’t read the missing UK mmWave line as evidence of a weaker modem — it’s really just about which frequencies each country’s carriers use.

Apple has yet to comment. Until it does, this is a documented gap on Apple’s own spec pages, plus one unnamed source’s code analysis, not an official disclosure.
