Huawei Mate 8 with 6-inch FHD, Kirin 950 SoC, 4GB RAM launched in China

Huawei has launched its new flagship phone, the Mate 8, in China.

The phablet sports a 6-inch FHD 1080p LCD display, and is powered the company’s latest chipset, the Kirin 950.

It features an octa-core processor, 4 x Cortex A53 clocked at 1.8GHz and 4 x Cortex A72 clocked at 2.3GHz, and is backed by 3GB/4GB of LPDDR4 RAM, and a 900MHz Mali-T880MP4 GPU.

The Huawei Mate 8 runs on Huawei EMUI 4.0 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The phone comes in three storage variants: 32GB, 64GB and 128GB internal memory, with support for expandable memory via a microSD slot.The phone supports Dual SIMs, as the memory card slot also doubles as a second SIM slot.

The Mate 8 sports  a 16 megapixel rear camera with OIS, a Sony IMX298 sensor and an f/2.0 aperture, and a 8 megapixel front camera with a Sony IMX179 sensor and an f/2.4 aperture. The Mate 8 is backed by a 400mAh battery with support with fast charging, which delivery up to 37% of charge in just 30 minutes. The phone has a speaker grille placed on the bottom.

The Mate 8 has a metal body made of aerospace-grade aluminum, and also features a 2.5D curved diamond cut glass. It measures at 157.1 x 80.6 x 7.9 mm and weighs at 185g.

The Huawei Mate 8 has been priced at RMB 2999 (approx Rs 31346 or $469) for the 3GB RAM/32GB variant, and at RMB 4399 (approx Rs 45979 or $689) for the 4GB RAM/128GB variant. The device comes in four colours: Champagne Gold, Moonlight Silver, Space Gray, and Mocha Brown.

Huawei has not announced any plans for making the device internationally available. The Huawi Mate 8 will be officially unveiled at the CES 2016 tech show in January 2016, and will be available in China in th e 1st quarter of next year.
