Google Phone app now blocks spam callers on Nexus and Android One phones

Google has published an update to its Phone app, aka the Dialer app, to add a very important feature to it. The Phone app now blocks spam callers, but only on Nexus and Android One phones.

According to the announcement on Google+, this feature will also allow you to report spam callers as well. You need to have the “Caller ID” option enabled in the Google Phone app’s settings.

Update the Google Phone app on your Nexus or Android One phone, from the Google Play Store. As usual, it is a staged roll out, so it may take a few days for the update to reach you.

It is a bit disappointing that the Google Phone app isn’t compatible with most phones, but that is because most OEMs have their own Android version, which comes with its own dialer. The surprising fact is that most OEMs have had this call blocking feature for ages, so its a bit shocking that Google only added it to its own app now, but its better late than never I suppose.
