AT&T is advertising up to $1,200 off Apple’s iPhone Duo, but that money doesn’t come off at checkout. Per AT&T’s October 9 release, it arrives as 36 monthly bill credits. Those credits also require an AT&T Premium 2.0 plan, at least $1,999.99 financed, and an eligible trade-in.
Pre-orders open at 5:00 a.m. PT on Friday, October 16. General availability follows on Friday, October 23. If you’re weighing AT&T’s iPhone Duo deal before then, here’s what the fine print asks of you.

What the AT&T iPhone Duo deal actually requires
AT&T’s headline promises “up to $1200 off, with eligible trade-in.” The footnote attached to that line sets four conditions.
- Financing: at least $1,999.99 on an AT&T installment plan.
- Plan: activation on AT&T Premium 2.0, listed at a minimum of $100 a month plus taxes and fees, before discounts.
- Trade-in: an eligible smartphone with a trade-in value of $230 or more.
- Payout: the $1,200 is spread across 36 monthly bill credits rather than taken off the price up front.
That makes $1,200 the ceiling of the offer, not a figure every buyer is guaranteed.
Doing the math over three years
Spread over 36 months, $1,200 works out to about $33.33 in credit per month. You only see the full amount once the 36th credit posts, roughly three years from now.
The plan is the bigger number. At its $100 monthly list price, three years of Premium 2.0 comes to $3,600 before taxes, fees or discounts. If you’d otherwise be on a cheaper plan, that gap eats into the headline savings.
Our take: this is a three-year commitment marketed as a discount. Anyone who upgrades every year or two should compare it against an unlocked iPhone Duo on a cheaper plan over the same period.
The $1,999.99 financing minimum also decides which iPhone Duo qualifies. A configuration that finances for less than that falls outside the offer. Our iPhone Duo launch coverage has the full pricing and spec breakdown.
Other AT&T offers on the iPhone Duo
- Switchers: up to $800 toward paying off a phone at another carrier, paid as a reward card. Porting in a new line is required.
- Online orders: $200 off per line, for purchases made online only.
If this structure looks familiar, it’s the same credits-over-time pattern we broke down for iPhone 18 Pro carrier deals. The Duo’s numbers are different, but the trade-off works the same way.
Before pre-orders open on October 16, check two things: your current phone’s trade-in value and the plan you’re on today. Those decide how much of AT&T’s $1,200 headline actually applies to you.
