Apple Store employees in the United States will be able to personalize an iPhone Duo at the counter, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The phone then greets the buyer by name the first time it turns on. The feature is limited to the US and to the iPhone Duo itself, with English and Spanish as the language options.

Gurman shared the detail on X, framing it as a small launch flourish rather than a headline feature.
Fun little touch for the iPhone Duo launch: Apple retail stores will have a system to customize the boot of the device with the buyer’s name so it says ‘Hello, Mark’ (for example) when it turns on for the first time. (US only, Duo only, English and Spanish)
Apple has not announced the option itself, so treat it as reporting rather than a confirmed spec sheet item. Gurman’s wording points at a system inside Apple’s retail stores. That leaves it unclear whether online orders qualify at all.
One practical note for buyers. A personalized greeting means handing your name to a retail terminal at the point of sale. Nothing in the report suggests Apple keeps that entry after the sale, and as of October 10 no official statement has surfaced on the question.
iPhone Duo Preorders and Pricing
Apple has said the iPhone Duo opens for preorder on October 16 at 5am Pacific. Shipping starts October 23 in the US and more than 70 other countries and regions. US pricing starts at $1,999 for the 256GB model and runs to $3,199 for 2TB. Apple also lists a US instalment option of $83.29 per month over 24 months.
Developers have their own iPhone Duo deadline, with iPhone Duo screenshots required for App Store submissions from April 2027.
Apple has a separate hardware moment on the calendar as well, having confirmed an October 13 launch date, where smart home gear is expected.
