One UI 9 Reaches Carrier-Locked Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 in the US

One UI 9, Samsung’s Android 17 release, has started reaching carrier-locked Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 units in the US. This is the next stage of a rollout we reported on October 3. That earlier wave covered unlocked US Galaxy S25 models and the 2025 foldables. Carrier-locked handsets usually trail unlocked ones, and that gap is now closing.

Which carriers and which phones

The mapping is uneven, so it is worth stating precisely. As of October 6, the reports cover these pairings only:

Galaxy Z Fold7

  • T-Mobile
  • Verizon

Galaxy Z Flip7

  • AT&T

So the Fold is live on two carriers and the Flip on one. The reports do not yet list the Z Fold7 on AT&T, or the Z Flip7 on T-Mobile and Verizon. GSMArena expects the update to reach additional US carriers in the coming days.

How to check for it

GSMArena describes the rollout as likely to be gradual, so the notification may not arrive on every handset at once. You can also look for it yourself. Open Settings, then Software update, then tap Download and install.

If nothing is offered, that fits a gradual rollout rather than pointing to a problem with your phone. Checking again over the next few days is the sensible approach.

Where the rollout stands overall

The global rollout for the Galaxy S25 series and these two foldables began in late September. Samsung had already moved stable One UI 9 onto the Galaxy S25 series and last year’s foldables at that stage. The S25 line then reached unlocked US units ahead of this carrier-locked foldable wave.

Owners of newer flagships got there sooner. The Galaxy S26 One UI 9 rollout widened to the US and more markets before any of this. The 2025 foldables have now caught up with them on the three largest US carriers.

The practical takeaway is narrow but useful. Fold7 owners on T-Mobile or Verizon, and Flip7 owners on AT&T, can go looking for Android 17 today. Everyone else on a carrier-locked 2025 foldable is waiting on the next batch.
