Google Health Partners with Abbott for Real-Time Glucose Monitoring: Premium Subscription Required

Google Health is partnering with Abbott to bring real-time continuous glucose monitoring to Android phones, the two companies announced on August 11. Abbott’s Lingo over-the-counter CGM will integrate directly with the Google Health app, feeding glucose data into an AI-powered coaching system that combines it with exercise, nutrition, and sleep tracking. The integration rolls out later in 2026.

What the Partnership Delivers

The collaboration has three pillars: integrating glucose data into Google Health for a unified health dashboard, delivering personalized AI recommendations through a feature called Google Health Coach, and conducting large-scale metabolic health research studies. Lingo is an over-the-counter CGM designed for adults 18 and older who are not using insulin — it shows how food, movement, and stress affect glucose levels in real time.

“The biggest challenge in healthcare isn’t treating disease — it’s helping people stay healthier longer.”

That is how Olivier Ropars, divisional vice president of Abbott’s Lingo business, framed the announcement. Rishi Chandra, vice president and general manager of Google Health, added: “The future of health lies in turning complex health information into personalized guidance that people can use every day.”

Pricing and Availability

Lingo is currently available in the US and UK through hellolingo.com, Amazon, Walmart, Walgreens, Best Buy, and Publix. The Google Health integration itself, however, requires a paid Google Health Premium subscription — a detail worth noting for anyone expecting this to be a free addition to their existing health tracking. Google has not disclosed Premium pricing for this tier.

The Premium requirement is a pattern worth watching. Google is increasingly gating its most useful health and AI features behind subscriptions, making features that could genuinely help users monitor chronic-risk conditions into upsell opportunities. Over 115 million American adults have prediabetes, with approximately 80% unaware of their condition, according to Abbott — real-time glucose visibility could be genuinely meaningful for that population, but only if the software side doesn’t price them out.

No timeline has been given beyond “later in 2026,” and Google’s disclaimer notes that features are “subject to change” with availability varying by device. The integration is explicitly not intended for medical purposes.
