Galaxy XCover 6 Pro Loses Monthly Security Updates: Samsung Moves It to Quarterly

Samsung has quietly downgraded the Galaxy XCover 6 Pro from monthly to quarterly security updates, effective August 2026. The change, first reported by SamMobile and confirmed on Samsung’s own security update schedule page, marks the beginning of the end for one of Samsung’s most durable enterprise phones.

The XCover 6 Pro launched in June 2022 and had received monthly security patches for four consecutive years — a solid run by any measure. Business and enterprise customers who rely on the phone’s rugged MIL-STD-810H build and removable battery in field environments will now wait up to three months between patches, a meaningful gap for devices handling sensitive workplace data.

What This Means for Galaxy XCover 6 Pro Owners

According to SamMobile, the quarterly cadence will continue for roughly one more year before Samsung ends software support entirely. The phone shipped with Android 12 and One UI 4, received its final major OS upgrade to Android 16 and One UI 8 in late 2025, and will not be eligible for the upcoming One UI 8.5 update.

That trajectory is standard for a Samsung device promised four major OS upgrades, but the enterprise context makes the downgrade sting more than it would on a consumer phone. Rugged devices tend to stay in service longer than typical smartphones — field workers, warehouse staff, and logistics teams often use them well past the point where a consumer would upgrade. Quarterly patches leave a wider window of exposure to newly discovered vulnerabilities.

The Bigger Picture

Samsung’s enterprise XCover and Tab Active lines compete directly with devices from Zebra, Honeywell, and other ruggedized vendors that often promise longer support windows tied to enterprise contracts. Moving a four-year-old device to quarterly patches is within Samsung’s stated policy, but enterprise buyers evaluating Samsung’s newer rugged phones should factor in when the same clock will start ticking on their replacements.

If you are still using an XCover 6 Pro in a business environment, now is a reasonable time to start planning a transition before support ends altogether next year.
