Google Health Can Now Sync Your Fitbit Data to Apple Health, but Check Your Privacy Settings First

Google Health version 5.05, which rolled out on 3 August 2026, adds the ability to sync fitness and health data from Google Health on iOS directly into Apple Health. The update matters most to Fitbit owners who use an iPhone — they can now route their tracker’s exercise, sleep, step, and vitals data into Apple’s own health dashboard without manually exporting anything.

Google Health now bridges Fitbit data to Apple Health

The new “Sync to Apple Health” option appears in the Google Health iOS app under your profile menu, then Partner apps, then Apple Health. From there you authorise which categories and individual metrics to share and choose between syncing the past 30 days or your full history. Once enabled, data flows automatically going forward.

The sync covers exercise records, steps, sleep data, and vitals — broadly, the metrics a Fitbit device like the Fitbit Air records throughout the day. One notable exclusion: Heart Rate Variability (HRV) is not included. Google Health and Apple Health calculate HRV using different formulas, and neither company has built a translation layer to reconcile the scores between the two platforms.

This was a feature on Google’s own roadmap for Health updates following the app’s overhaul earlier this year, and a Reddit user spotted it going live in the v5.05 changelog before the wider rollout was confirmed.

What Android and Fitbit users should know

The sync is iOS-only — it exists because Apple Health is an iOS framework, not because Google is favouring iPhone users. For Android owners, the practical takeaway is narrower but still real: if your household splits between Android and iPhone, or if you carry both platforms, Fitbit data now lives in both ecosystems without a third-party bridge app. That is something Garmin and Whoop users have had for years; Google is catching up, not leading.

Worth noting what you are consenting to when you flip this on. Enabling the sync means Google Health shares your biometric and activity data with Apple’s Health framework, which in turn makes it available to any iOS app you have granted Apple Health read access to. If you have been careful about which apps can see your health data — as Samsung Health’s recent AI consent controversy showed, these permissions matter — check your Apple Health permissions before and after enabling the sync. The surface area of who can read your Fitbit data just got wider.

Other changes in Google Health v5.05

The same update brings a US-only feature: secure Smart Health Links that let users share medical record summaries with healthcare providers or family members. Google also fixed stability issues with VO2Max calculations, exercise maps, and workout editing that had lingered through the June–July update cycle.
