Google is the default search engine in Firefox. The browser app has a couple of other options that you can choose. But, do you know how to add a custom search engine in Firefox for Android?
The first thing you need to do is pick a search engine of your choice, and note down its URL. We are going to use Brave Search in this example. If you don’t have Firefox, you can download the open source browser for free from the Google Play Store.
How to add a custom search engine in Firefox for Android
1. Go to Firefox Settings > Search.
2. Tap on Add Search Engine.
3. Enter the name of the search engine in the first box.
4. Next, you will need to set the search string URL. This usually has a %s suffix. For example: https://search.brave.com/search?q=s
5. Finally, you can set the search suggestion API URL. It should be something like this: https://search.brave.com/api/suggest?q=s
6. Tap on Save.
7. Go back to the previous page, and select the custom search engine that you added.
Now, you know how to add a custom search engine in Firefox for Android. It is time to test it. Open a new tab and type something in the address bar and tap on the check mark / enter key. The results will appear from the search engine that you added.
If you provided the search suggestion API’s URL, you should also see the suggestions appear as you type something. These automatic suggestions are handled by your preferred search engine.
You can edit your saved search engine settings by tapping on the three-dot button next to its name on the Search Settings page.
To restore the default search engine, just go to Firefox Settings > Search and tap on Google.
