A bunch of iPhone 15 Pro leaked renders have surfaced online. It shows a USB Type-C port on the device, which will make it the first Apple phone to use the connector

iPhone 15 Pro leaked renderApple to ditch the lightning port on the iPhone 15

The Cupertino company introduced the lightning port in 2012, when the iPhone 5 was launched. Apple has used it on all of its iPhones and iPads ever since. The Silicon Valley giant got rid of the 3.5mm headphone jack when it announced the iPhone 7 in 2016.

This drew criticism from the tech community, but the complaints came to no avail, as the rest of the smartphone industry followed suit by ditching the audio port from their own devices. In an ironic way, while the other manufacturers began adopting the USB Type-C standard for charging and data transfers, Apple ignored the trend.

This resulted in even more criticism than when it dropped the 3.5mm jack. It also drew the attention of regulators in Europe, India, the U.S. The European Union pass a law last year, to force electronic device makers to use the USB Type-C port on mobile phones, tablets, headphones, etc. The law comes into effect in 2024.

So, Apple had no choice but to bid adieu to the Lightning connector, and equip its smartphone with a USB Type-C port. The iPhone 15 Pro leaked render suggests that the change could happen in 2023 itself. The switch to the USB Type-C standard could have a disadvantage, as the company could limit some features to Apple certified cables aka Made-for-iPhone (MFi).

iPhone 15 Pro leaked design

The iPhone 15 Pro leaked pictures that were shared by 9to5Mac and Ian Zelbo, shows a rather chunky design. The frame of the device is thicker than previous models, and also more curved. The glass of the display is curved around the edges. Another noticeable change in the design is that the mobile has very slim bezels, so as far as the display is concerned, it looks sleek.

The volume rockers no longer has physical buttons, instead it has what appears to be capacitive keys. The mute button is smaller, rounder and looks similar to the capacitive buttons.

Moving on to the rear, the camera array seen in the iPhone 15 Pro leaked render looks identical to the iPhone 14 Pro, with three lenses. But the camera bump on the upcoming phone is also quite thicker compared to its predecessor. This suggests that Apple may have upgraded the camera sensors and/or lenses.

The iPhone 15 Pro leaked images also confirm the presence of the Dynamic Island on the screen, and the display could be 6.1-inches in size. Will we see this on Android flagship phones this year?
