Pixel 6 and 6 Pro: Google’s Five-Year Update Window Closes This Month

Google’s five-year update window for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro closes this month. The October 2026 security patch is the newest update either phone has received. As of October 19, Google has not published a last-patch date for them.

Google’s own support page still lists both phones in its five-year group. It has not moved them into the group of phones that no longer receive updates. For now, the Pixel 6 sits at the edge of its update promise rather than officially past it.

Why the Pixel 6 update window ends in October 2026

Google’s Pixel Phone Help page spells out when the clock starts:

“These phones, including Pixel Fold, will get updates for 5 years starting from when the device first became available on the Google Store in the US.”

The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro launched in October 2021. Five years from that launch lands in October 2026.

The timing matches what Google committed to at launch. Droid Life’s launch-day report on October 19, 2021, said the phones would get security updates until at least October 2026. That wording set a minimum, not a fixed end date. Google has not announced an extension on any page we reviewed for this story.

Where the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro stand today

  • Update policy: Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are both listed in Google’s five-year group.
  • Latest patch: October 2026, build CP3A.261005.002.A1 (Global) for both phones.
  • Last-patch date: not announced by Google.
  • Google Store page: the US Pixel 6 store link now redirects to the Pixel 11 lineup page.

Google began rolling out the October 2026 patch to Pixel phones on October 6, 9to5Google reported. Google’s Pixel Community changelog lists the same global build for the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. The Pixel 6a appears on that build in the same table.

Is October the final update?

No Google page we read names October as the last update. Beebom describes the October patch as the phones’ final update and says they have reached end of life. Its article does not cite a Google source for that claim. Until Google updates its support page, treat October as the newest patch rather than a confirmed last one.

What changes for Pixel 6 owners

A Pixel 6 does not stop working when support ends. The phone keeps running as it does today. What stops is new security patches from Google.

Without those patches, software flaws found later stay open on your phone. That matters most if you bank, shop or keep work accounts on it. Whether to keep the phone or replace it is your call.

If you keep it, install the October patch so you are on the newest build Google has shipped. If you are shopping for a replacement, check the update promise before the specs. Policies differ by brand, as Motorola’s latest update pledge shows.

What to watch next

The clearest signal will come from Google’s support page. If Google moves the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro into its no-longer-updated group, support has formally ended. A November build for either phone would mean the window ran past October.
