More Redmi K20 specs confirmed; has a 4000mAh battery and In-display fingerprint scanner

A couple of the Redmi K20 specs have bee confirmed by the brand’s General Manager, Lu Weibing. He posted some interesting stuff on Weibo, and here’s what we learnt from it.

The Redmi K20 will feature a 4,000 mAh battery. That combined with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, which was previously confirmed by the company, should offer some good backup.

Lu says that the device uses AI-based power saving optimization, which prevents apps from starting up in the background frequently. It will also use AI to intelligently reduce the brightness of the display to save power and also helps reduce eye-strain.

Another of the newly confirmed Redmi K20 specs is the AMOLED display. And it is equipped with an in-display fingerprint scanner. While highlighting the convenience of an in-screen sensor over a rear-placed one, Lu also mentioned that most of these scanners are slower.

But the K20 will have an improved optical in-display fingerprint scanner with a 3P lens and a macro camera. It has 7.2μm ultra-large pixels, which results in a 100% higher photosensitive area for the fingerprint scanner, which combined with a software parallel DSP algorithm, gives a 10% faster unlock speed. Other improvements made to the sensor include 30% more success rate when you try to unlock it with dry fingers, or in environmental conditions that include low temperature or brightly lit conditions.

Speaking of which, optical fingerprint scanners have an issue when the phone is used at night or dark/low light conditions. The screen becomes significantly brighter when the device is unlocked. Lu says that the company has addressed this issue by altering the green spot on the screen (for the fingerprint sensor) to a cyan gradient. It also uses the ambient light sensor to adjust the brightness of the screen accordingly.

Here are some previously confirmed specs of the device.
