Google to rebrand its Nexus line up, Marlin and Sailfish will be called Pixel and Pixel XL

We have come across many reports which claim that Google is ending the Nexus line up of phones, and rebrand it as “Google Phones”. While there isn’t any particularly strong evidence about this, a new report by Android Police, which should serve as a credible source, suggests the same.

But the new phones won’t be Google Phones, instead the Mountain View company, will name the upcoming devices as the Pixel and the Pixel XL.

This does seem like a move to unify Google’s devices, which includes the Android tablet, the Pixel C. Yes, those aren’t exactly cool names like the Nexus was. But the reports say these could be influenced by the fact that Google had more say in the design of the devices, and also by Rick Osterloh who heads Google’s hardware division (after quitting Motorola earlier this year).

So it appears that the HTC Sailfish will be called the Pixel, while the HTC Marlin will be called the Pixel XL. We have already seen the technical specifications of the Sailfish and the Marlin.

And we recently reported about the leaked press renders of the HTC Sailfish, which feature the best leaked images of the device.
