Samsung Confirms Galaxy SmartTag3 Works on Non-Galaxy Android Phones

Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy SmartTag3 works with non-Galaxy Android phones. The company said so in a statement to Android Police, and not in its launch announcement or marketing materials. Earlier SmartTag generations were effectively Galaxy-only, so this is a real expansion rather than a clarification.

If you carry a Pixel, a OnePlus or a Motorola, that changes the shortlist. Until now a Samsung tracker was a poor fit for a non-Samsung phone, and the sensible choice was a competing tag.

Yes, SmartTag3 is compatible with other Android devices that have access to the Google Play Store to download the SmartThings and Samsung Find app.

That was Samsung’s answer, given in response to Android Police’s question. The only stated requirement is Play Store access, because both SmartThings and Samsung Find are distributed there. Samsung Find is Samsung’s own location service, and it is separate from Google’s Find Hub.

What a non-Galaxy phone still misses

Compatibility is not the same thing as parity. Compass View, the on-screen direction view for homing in on a tag, stays limited to Galaxy phones. It requires Android 12 or newer plus UWB or Bluetooth Channel Sounding support.

Bluetooth Channel Sounding is currently available on only four Galaxy models:

  • Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra
  • Galaxy Z Fold8
  • Galaxy S26 Ultra
  • Galaxy S26+

Galaxy phones with UWB qualify as well, which widens that list considerably. The practical split is simple. Non-Galaxy Android owners get the core finding features, while Galaxy owners keep the precise ones. We covered the same pattern when SmartTag3 picked up iPhone support with three features held back.

Samsung had a clear selling point here and left it out of its launch materials. Non-Galaxy buyers had to wait for a reporter to ask before they learned the tag would work at all. Before this, some owners leaned on community workarounds such as the uTag app to pair SmartTag2 with non-Samsung phones. Native support should make that detour unnecessary.

Pricing and Availability

SmartTag3 goes on sale in Korea on October 7, 2026, with the US following in early November. Samsung’s newsroom lists $29.99 for a single tag and $99.99 for a four-pack. Further markets are set to follow in 2027, which applies to those extra regions rather than the US launch.
