Samsung is shutting down the Tracker service inside the SmartThings app on October 31, 2026. That is the layer that shows Galaxy SmartTag locations and sends tracker notifications from within SmartThings. An in-app notice says the features stop working on November 1, on both Android and iOS.
It is worth being precise here, because the shutdown is narrower than it first sounds. Samsung is not switching off Galaxy SmartTag hardware. What disappears is the tracker layer inside one app.
Samsung’s notice is brief and gives no reason beyond a policy change.
Due to a change in our service operation policy, the Tracker service will be discontinued on October 31, 2026. As a result, starting November 1, 2026, Tracker service features, such as location checking and notifications for Tracker devices, will no longer be available.
What the SmartThings Tracker shutdown changes, and for whom
Galaxy phone owners with a SmartTag
You keep the ability to find your tag. The separate Samsung Find app on Galaxy devices still locates Galaxy SmartTags after October 31. What you lose is the convenience of seeing that tracker inside SmartThings alongside your other connected devices.
iPhone and iPad owners
This group takes the real hit. SmartThings on iOS was the route to tracker locations for Apple users, and Samsung’s notice does not point them to a replacement. Samsung Find is a Galaxy app, so there is no like-for-like fallback on iOS.
Owners of third-party trackers
The Tracker service also covered third-party trackers that plugged into the same network. Samsung’s notice does not say those devices move over to Samsung Find. If you bought a non-Samsung tag because it worked with SmartThings, check with its maker before November.
Why this matters for SmartTag buyers
A cutoff roughly a month out is a short runway for a feature people bought hardware around. Samsung offers no migration path in the notice, only an apology for the inconvenience. With trackers, trust in the network matters far more than the plastic tag itself.
The timing is also notable given persistent reports of a third-generation tag. We covered the SmartTag3 leak earlier in September, and anyone weighing that purchase should factor in which app will actually track it.
If you rely on SmartThings for tracker alerts today, the practical step is simple. Galaxy owners should open Samsung Find and confirm their tags appear there before the October 31 cutoff.
