Pixel 11 Is Free at US Carriers, but Only on Their Terms

The Pixel 11 series reached shelves and carrier stores this week after a week of pre-orders, and all three major US carriers marked the occasion with offers that put the word “free” next to a phone that lists for four figures. The Pixel 11 carrier deals at T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon are real, but each one is a different arrangement, and the conditions attached decide whether the discount is worth anything to you.

The common thread is that none of these are discounts in the sense of paying less at the till. They are monthly bill credits, spread over a contract term, that evaporate if you leave. Read the mechanics before the number.

What each carrier is offering on the Pixel 11

T-Mobile has the widest offer: all three non-folding models can be had for nothing. The headline case is the Pixel 11 Pro XL at $1,300 off, which zeroes out the base configuration. To get there you must either add a new line or trade in an old device — any device, in any condition — and sign up for the carrier’s Experience Beyond 2.0 or Go5G Next plan. The Pixel 11 and Pixel 11 Pro have equivalent deals tied to Essentials 2.0 and Experience More 2.0 or Go5G Plus respectively. The discount arrives as credits against your monthly bill over as long as 36 months. There is also $300 off a Pixel Watch 5 with a new line on the Watch Plus Plan, taking the 41mm model to $200 and the 45mm to $30 more, and 25% off a bundle of a case, screen protector and charger.

AT&T is narrower but simpler. The Pixel 11 Pro is free with a trade-in, and the trade has to be an old Pixel, though condition does not matter. The Pro XL gets up to $1,350 off on the same basis. The plain Pixel 11 is the only one you can get without surrendering a handset: $11 a month, no trade-in. The Pixel Watch 5 is half price if bought online. AT&T also confirms the series is FirstNet Ready, which matters to first responders on that network.

Verizon reserves its best terms for people already on the network. Existing customers on an eligible myPlan can get up to $900 off with a trade-in, which is enough to make the standard Pixel 11 free. The 256GB Pixel 11 Pro works out to $45 a month over 48 months — a $15 device payment plus a $30 plan rate. Do that arithmetic and $15 across 48 months is $720, meaning roughly $380 of the phone is covered by promotional credit, and you are committed for four years to collect it. Verizon’s alternative is the Pro at no cost on the $80-a-month Simplicity plan, which permits a yearly upgrade instead of locking the handset down for four.

The fine print that decides whether these are good deals

Three things are worth holding onto. First, a 36-month or 48-month credit schedule is a commitment, not a coupon — leave early and the remaining credits stop, which is the mechanism by which a “free” phone becomes an exit fee. Second, most of these offers are gated to a specific and usually expensive plan tier, so the discount is partly recovered through what you pay monthly for service; the Verizon Pro maths above makes that unusually visible. Third, AT&T’s requirement that the trade-in be a Pixel narrows its offer considerably compared with T-Mobile accepting anything in any condition.

One model sits outside all of it. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is stocked by T-Mobile and Verizon but not AT&T, and it carries no special discount at any of them. If the foldable is the one you want, the carrier launch promotions give you no reason to buy it through a carrier at all.

These figures come from carrier promotional terms as reported at launch rather than from pages we could verify directly, and carrier offers change without notice — confirm the exact terms with the carrier before committing to a multi-year credit schedule.
