One UI 9 Beta Reaches Galaxy S24, A57 and 2024 Foldables Too

The One UI 9 beta has landed on four sets of Galaxy devices that do not appear on the roster Samsung published on 1 September. The Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra, the Galaxy A57, and the 2024 foldables — Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 — all picked up Android 17-based beta builds today. Samsung’s own announcement named six phones, and none of these were among them.

What Samsung actually announced, and what shipped

Samsung’s press release named six phones for September: the Galaxy Z Fold7, Galaxy Z Flip7, Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, Galaxy S25 Ultra and Galaxy S25 FE. On timing it said only this:

Following the expansion of the One UI 9 beta with the Galaxy S26 series in May, the program will roll out to more devices starting in September.

That wording is worth reading carefully. Samsung wrote eligible devices include, not eligible devices are. The list was never framed as closed. So the correct way to describe today is not that Samsung reversed itself. It is that the beta has moved past the phones Samsung chose to name, and it has done so faster than the announcement implied.

The sequencing is the odd part. SamMobile notes that the Galaxy S24 build went live before the beta reached the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 — two phones that were explicitly on the published list.

Which devices have the One UI 9 beta now

Galaxy S24 series — The beta is live for the Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra in the US, India and South Korea, per GSMArena. It weighs roughly 3.6GB and carries firmware ending in ZZHL, EZHK or EZHL. Android Authority puts the US build at S92xU1UEU6ZZHL, crediting tipster Tarun Vats, and says it bundles the August 2026 security patch. The Galaxy S24 FE is not included.

Galaxy A57 — SamMobile reports the first One UI 9.0 beta for the A57 rolled out in India first, at 2,316.29MB, firmware A576BXXU5ZZHJ. This is the notable one. A mid-range Galaxy A phone getting an Android 17 beta this early is unusual; A-series devices normally wait for the stable build.

Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 — SamMobile says the 2024 foldables have the beta in South Korea first, with other markets expected to follow.

What the Galaxy S24 beta changes

Samsung’s changelog for the S24 build, as published by SamMobile, is mostly interface and accessibility work rather than headline AI features:

  • Quick panel — the brightness and volume sliders and the media player can be resized, and the sound mode button can be split off from the volume slider.
  • Samsung DeX — app windows move between desktops from a menu at the top of the window, and desktop previews now sit at the top of the Recents screen.
  • Samsung Notes — a new Tape feature covers parts of a note until you reveal them, plus new pen styles.
  • Location transparency — a blue indicator appears at the top of the screen when an app reads your location, and tapping it in the quick panel names the app.
  • Text spotlight — tap any on-screen text to enlarge and highlight it in its own window.
  • Accessibility — physical keyboard shortcuts for accessibility settings, expanded mouse keys with speed and acceleration control, and Select to speak for audio readouts without full TalkBack.

The location indicator is the one worth flagging. Android has shown camera and microphone indicators for years, but a persistent, tappable location indicator makes it much harder for an app to poll your position quietly in the background. That is a real privacy gain, not a cosmetic one.

How to enrol, and why you might not want to

Enrolment works the same way as previous cycles: install Samsung Members, sign in with the account tied to the phone, tap the One UI 9 beta banner, then go to Settings, Software update, Check for updates. If there is no banner, the beta has not opened in your market.

Be honest with yourself about the device first. The Galaxy S24 is a two-year-old daily driver for a lot of people, and the A57 is a mid-ranger that is often somebody’s only phone. Early One UI betas routinely break banking apps and drain battery. Rolling back to stable normally wipes the phone. Back up before enrolling, and if this is the handset you cannot afford to lose for a day, wait for the stable release.

None of these devices has a stable One UI 9 date. Samsung’s announcement did not give one, and as of this writing no separate timetable for the S24 series or the A57 has surfaced.
