Xiaomi has been successful in creating a flash sale model for its smartphones in India and even motivated other manufacturers to try the same flash sale model with pre-registration for smartphone sales. At the moment, Smartphones who follow this flash sale model include Xiaomi devices like Redmi 1s, Redmi Note, Mi 4, Micromax Yureka and Lenovo A6000.
Now it seems that Xiaomi is slightly modifying this flash sale model of theirs, perhaps based on the consumer feedback or based on some market competition from other brands in same price range.
Starting February 26th, the 16 GB variant of Mi 4 will be available on Flipkart without any pre registration required, where as registration has started for the Mi 4 64GB model and you can buy it at 2PM on March 3rd if you have pre-registered. This simply means that you can buy the Mi 4 16 GB model at any time from Flipkart without waiting for 2 PM on Tuesdays without a mad rush.
We are not sure what prompted this, but perhaps One Plus One is giving some good competition in the same price range and which is available for sale without any invitation (only on Tuesdays though).
