iPhone 18 Pro Pre-Orders May Start a Day Late, on Saturday September 12

If you were planning to set a Friday morning alarm to secure an iPhone 18 Pro pre-order, a new report says you will need a different one. Pre-orders are rumoured to open on Saturday, September 12 at midnight PT rather than the customary Friday at 5AM PT, pushing the moment of truth almost a full day later and into the middle of the night.

The claim comes from German outlet Macwelt, which says a source has told it that Apple is deliberately stepping around the usual Friday slot this year. It is a rumour, not an Apple announcement, and nothing about the pre-order timing has been confirmed by the company.

What the iPhone 18 Pro pre-order change actually means for buyers

Apple’s pattern for years has been predictable enough to plan around: announce on a Wednesday, open pre-orders at 5AM Pacific on the Friday of the same week. Apple has already confirmed the September 9 event, a Wednesday, so the default expectation was Friday, September 11.

Two things change if this report is right. The first is the day — Saturday, September 12. The second, and the one more likely to catch people out, is the hour. A midnight PT start is 3AM on the US East Coast and 12:30PM in India, so the window that has historically rewarded early risers on the West Coast would instead land in the small hours for much of the country. Anyone who has queued for a launch-day delivery slot on a popular configuration knows that the first few minutes matter, and this would move those minutes.

The reasoning offered is that September 11 falls on the Friday after the event. To be clear about the provenance: that explanation is Macwelt‘s and Macworld‘s reading of why Apple would move, not a rationale Apple has stated. Reporting it as Apple’s own stated motive would be going further than the sourcing supports.

There is one checkable precedent that makes the theory more than speculation, and it is exclusive to Macworld‘s write-up: in 2015, the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus were not available to pre-order until Saturday, September 12, for the same calendar reason. Apple has done this before under identical circumstances.

Which devices this covers, and which one waits longer

The reported Saturday timing is said to cover the iPhone 18 Pro alongside the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. Note that the outlets differ slightly here: GSMArena’s retelling lists the Series 12 but not the Ultra 4.

The foldable iPhone Ultra is the outlier. Even though it is widely expected to be unveiled on the same stage on September 9, Macworld says reports claim its pre-orders might not open until late September. That matches multiple earlier reports suggesting the folding model ships on a later schedule than the Pro and Pro Max, so a buyer eyeing the foldable should not assume a September 12 alarm buys them anything at all.

How firm is this?

Treat it as a single-source rumour with a plausible historical pattern behind it, not a schedule to book time off for. The underlying tipster is an unnamed “reliable source,” so there is no track record to weigh, and Apple typically publishes exact pre-order timing on its own site during or immediately after the keynote. The practical advice is simple: watch the event on September 9, and take the pre-order date from Apple’s own store page rather than from any alarm you set in advance.
