Samsung has started pushing the One UI 9 Watch beta to the Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 6 Classic in South Korea. That is a 2023 smartwatch picking up a beta of Samsung’s newest watch software, and it lands only a week after the Galaxy Watch 7 and the original Galaxy Watch Ultra got the same build. For once, the interesting part of an eligibility story is a device that was not left out.
Which Galaxy Watch 6 models are getting the One UI 9 Watch beta
SamMobile lists four firmware builds, one per size and variant:
- Galaxy Watch 6 (40mm) — R93xXXU2ZZI1
- Galaxy Watch 6 (44mm) — R94xXXU2ZZI1
- Galaxy Watch 6 Classic (43mm) — R95xXXU2ZZI1
- Galaxy Watch 6 Classic (47mm) — R96xXXU2ZZI1
The build is based on Wear OS 7. The original notice came from the Korean Samsung community page, spotted and shared on X by leaker Tarun Vats.
What the update actually brings is still unclear
Android Authority says it has not seen an official changelog, and that the screenshot it worked from only shows how to sign up and download. SamMobile is equally direct: it says it is not clear what new features the update brings to either watch. Both expect the broad strokes seen elsewhere in One UI 9 Watch, meaning a more modern interface and deeper Gemini integration.
That is thinner than what androidpure could report for the Galaxy Watch 7, where the beta added two named health features. Older hardware often gets a reduced version of a software release, and no breakdown of what the Watch 6 does and does not get has surfaced yet. Treat the feature list as unknown until a changelog appears.
Where it is available, and where it might go next
South Korea only, for now. Beyond that, the two outlets covering this do not agree, and neither has a Samsung statement to settle it. SamMobile says it does not look like Samsung plans to expand the beta to other countries, naming Germany, India, Poland, the UK and the US. Android Authority takes a softer line, saying it is unclear when or if the beta for the 2023 Galaxy Watch models will reach the US.
Both are characterisations by the outlets rather than confirmed plans. What is on record is that the beta has already reached the US on the Galaxy Watch 8, per Android Authority. If you own a Watch 6 outside Korea, nothing is actionable yet.
Should you install it if you can?
Probably not, and the reasoning has not changed since we covered the Galaxy Watch 7 beta. A beta on a phone is recoverable. A beta on a watch you sleep in, pay with and rely on for workout tracking is harder to back out of, and there is no changelog here telling you what you are trading that stability for.
The useful takeaway is not the build number. It is that a watch Samsung sold in 2023 is still being carried forward into a new OS cycle rather than aged out. Whether that holds through to a stable release, on hardware outside Korea, is the part still worth watching.
